Our first dog is a pit bull. He has not only made our house a home, but he has changed our lives forever. Kalypso came to us at the ripe age of three months. She was born at the bottom of the pecking order as the midget. She did not receive the best of care and was eventually rescued by Paws 4 Thought Pet Rescue. It was then that she came to us. It was love at first sniff.

Her less than ideal start led to a series of health problems. She came into our lives as a host for roundworms and congenital scabies. After receiving treatment, she contracted whipworms from the contaminated soil. Treatment for this specific parasite is time consuming. She was later diagnosed with giardia, which is a common disease of pit bulls. Although she has had her fair share of problems, she has been the best addition to our family.

Kalypso has quite a bit of personality in her. At our local dog park, she was deemed “half hole, half hippo” after charging at full speed, with her face first in a mud puddle, then rolling until she was completely covered.

She also treats our 6 year old son like a little brother. She will sit next to her and crawl behind him, lick his ear and run off. Even though they make fun of each other, when he is scared, she is by her side to protect him. She also protects me. While she was watching a scary movie alone, she started growling at the TV for scaring me.
