Some people go on long vacations. These vacations are by car versus traveling by train or plane. When you take a long car trip, you may want to take your dog with you. It is not as simple as putting your dog in the car and driving off. You must prepare properly so that this process is more comfortable for your dog.

The first thing you have to do is make sure your dog is comfortable in the car. Take your dog with you around town more than a few times and see if he is comfortable in the car. Do you see a problem with your pet in the car? If you do see some, tackle them before going on a longer trip.

Have blankets for the dog to lie down on. The journey will be long and your dog may want to lie down and sleep or at least be comfortable. The more of these you have, the more comfortable your dog will feel.

Bring your box. Your dog may get bored or even irritated at times. If you have the crate, you will be able to keep your dog under control when he jumps. It is also easier to travel with a crate, as you can keep the dog in it at night.

Have water that the dog can drink. Cars get hot on long drives even with the air conditioning on. Make it easy for your pet to drink frequently.

Do not feed your pet before you leave. Dogs can get sick from the car. The less you eat, the less trouble this will cause you when you’re on the go. Feed your pet more after you finish driving that day.

Entertain your dog by having plenty of toys to play with. Don’t make loud noises, otherwise it will bother you to hear the same sounds over and over again.

Take frequent breaks. The dog will need to go out and walk, as well as use the bathroom.

Never leave your dog in the car, even if you will be away for a few minutes at a stop. This can harm or even kill your pet. It’s also not fair for your pet to have to stay inside the car when he wants to get out and stretch.
